The Great Indian Saint – Shirdi Sai Baba!
Shirdi Sai Baba is a Baba from town of Shirdi in India. He is considered as both a saint and a fakir by all the devotees of Shirdi Sai Baba. He was against labelling people as Hindu or Muslim He maintained anonymity about his religion as strictly as possible. It was never clear whether he was a Muslim or a Hindu. . In fact he named his own abode in Shirdi as Dwarakamayi.
He kept telling this: Allah Malik and Sabka Malik Ek!
He also has repeatedly said: “Look to me, and I shall look to you” and “Allah tera bhala karega”
He practiced both Hindu and Muslim rituals.
He was considered to be the incarnation of Guru Dattatreya.
Sai Baba in Marathi means Holy Father/Saintly Father/ Poor Old Man. His original name and date of birth is still unknown. The information that we have about him is mainly through Sai Satcharitra written by Hemadpant. Sai Baba had told one of his followers, Mahalsapati that he has been born of Dehastha Brahmin parents in the village of Pathri and was entrusted into the care of Fakir. He had also said that the Fakir’s wife had handed him over to a Hindu Guru Venkusa of Selu and he stated with him for 12 years.
He had led a life of an ascetic in Shirdi. He used to sit under a neem tree motionless and meditating in a particular asana. He remained under the tree in heat or cold and did not bother to associate with any one. His style of dressing consisted of a knee length one-piece Kafni robe and a cloth cap.
Shirdi Sai Baba live all his life as a mendicant, begging for alms and lived a village hakim curing the ailments of patients just with the power of Sacred ashes. He performed several miracles in the lives of people and still continues to perform several miracles in the lives of his devotees.
